U4GM Guide to COD MW4 Tactical Weapon Choices

Andrew736
Infinity Ward is aiming for a different kind of impact with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, due on 23 October 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC. The guns aren't being treated as background gear; they're the centre of the match. That matters if you're following updates around Modern Warfare 4 Boosting, because the game's combat rhythm looks built around clean input, solid feedback, and knowing why a shot landed. Mark Grigsby and Jack O'Hara have pushed the team toward a more physical feel, right down to the way an operator occupies space behind the weapon.

Close to Cover, Not Stuck on a Screen

You'll notice the body work before you can put a name to it. Move into a wall, edge toward a doorway, or lean around cover, and the operator pulls the weapon inward instead of leaving it hanging unrealistically in front of the camera. It's a small response, but it changes how corners feel. Principal Animator Ranon Sarono's team has focused on those awkward little moments players normally ignore. Now they're part of the encounter. Range visits also feed into the work: recoil, weight shifts, report, and reload motion are studied together, then passed between animation, sound, and art teams.

Shots Should Go Where You Put Them

The biggest rule change is the removal of bullet spread caused by bloom. If the sights are on target, the projectile follows that line. No mystery cone deciding otherwise. That gives gunfights a sharper edge, especially at medium range, where disciplined bursts and better positioning should count for more than luck. The revised focus system supports that idea too. Your target stays clear while the nearby view softens, much like natural vision. Muzzle flashes have also been shaped so they don't cover the exact spot you need to see.

System What changes in play
Direct shot path Aiming accuracy has a clearer payoff.
Dynamic weapon posture Walls and cover affect the operator's stance.
Focused sight picture Targets remain readable during fast exchanges.

Attachments With a Real Trade-Off

Gunsmith is going beyond tiny stat nudges with Apex attachments. These parts can reshape how a weapon behaves, rather than merely making it a bit quicker or steadier. A single-action revolver can become a faster, more aggressive sidearm. The PPSH can take the Spitfire setup for incendiary rounds. There's even a laser-guided underbarrel rocket that can be directed after launch. Players can expect a broad selection around those options.

Axion and M4 assault rifles.
Cronen Squall battle rifle.
Mosin-Nagant and Oris 8.6 precision rifles.
WZ.55 Striga and close-range shotguns.

A More Deliberate Fight

Weapon Designer Cody Pierson, Ben Garnell, Francisco Galvez, and the wider team appear to be building each firearm around a clear job, not a pile of numbers. That's encouraging. A stable rifle, a heavy sniper, and a quick SMG should ask different things of you. For players looking at cheap Modern Warfare 4 Boosting options, it may be worth learning one loadout properly first, since positioning, sight alignment, and attachment choices are set to matter a great deal more.
